Program Overview

Graphic designers find the most effective way to visually communicate messages across advertising media, including print, electronic, and digital media. Want to be a Graphic Designer, Commercial Artist, Layout Artist, Press Operator, Plate Maker, Vinyl Sign Artist, or Bindery Worker.  Graphic Arts is the most common way in which the world communicates. This course is designed to prepare students for a career in this high-demand field by pairing their creative and artistic talents with various types of media.

From creation to production, students learn all aspects of the graphic design world. Students will be introduced to and develop “hands-on skills” in job planning, introduction to computers, graphic design fundamentals, layout and design, typography, airbrushing, direct-to-film printing, CAD-cut and heat press transfers, vinyl design graphics, digital press/copier, pre-press techniques, and bindery. Desktop publishing and computer graphics applications have become integral to graphic communications. Students will use software applications such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, and FlexiSign Pro.

  • Digital Imaging: Editing and manipulating images using tools like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

  • Advertising & Branding Concepts: Creating materials that promote products, services, or messages effectively.

  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD): Using software to create and refine digital artwork for various platforms.

  • Portfolio Development: Assembling and presenting a body of work for employment or post-secondary opportunities.

  • Client Communication: Interpreting client needs and feedback to meet project goals.

  • Production Processes: Preparing artwork for print, web, and multimedia platforms.
